Constellations

Selections from the collection of Martin Bodmer,

chosen for their scarcity and special interest

Illustration : The De Bry Constellation

From the roughly 50,000 written documents held by the Martin Bodmer Foundation, the Bodmer Lab has chosen to digitise manuscripts and printed sources of particular interest to both specialists and the general public, with a focus on the history of ideas, history of the book and history of illustration.

Each of the texts that form these constellations has been assigned to one or more experts who have drawn on the digitised sources to study and highlight their importance and context.

The results are diverse: a scientific catalogue (Shakespeare and premodern English literature; biblical papyri); detailed analysis of unique documents (Ménandre, French hand-written manuscripts), an annotated image library (Renaissance voyages, Faust), etc.
